Iraklia, Greece Yoga Retreat – Retreat No. 2

After three years of searching for the perfect Greek island venue, Iraklia appeared. This small, unspoiled island in the Small Cyclades, southeast of Naxos, is a haven for those seeking peace and authenticity. With a population of just 148, it remains untouched by mass tourism, offering a genuine connection to Greek culture and tradition.

This retreat takes place on a spectacular hilltop just above the village, in a simple, homey setting that is impeccably maintained but not fancy or chic. The property features a stunning yoga shala, which is what drew the teacher to this island. Guests stay across two venues. The main house has the yoga shala on site. The second venue is a small hotel called Cosmos, located five minutes away. All rooms have balconies and views. Sea views cannot be guaranteed unless the room type specifies it.

Breakfast and dinner are included. Breakfast is served together at the main house after morning yoga. Dinners take place at three different local restaurants in the village, allowing guests to experience authentic local cuisine and get to know the island’s community. The retreat remains alcohol and smoke-free.

The host and his father are naturalists with deep knowledge of the island’s birds, animals, flora, and fauna. The host also knows all seven hiking trails and offers guided tours of the island. Guests can expect a boat cruise exploring hidden beaches and other local islands, hikes, long sunsets, and a connection to a simpler life.

Experts Leading Your Journey

Susie Keratiotis

Susie Keratiotis

Susie has been a student of yoga since her early twenties. She is a mother of two and throughout life’s ups and downs, yoga has always been a constant for her. In 2010, she decided to deepen her practice and embark on her Yoga Teacher Training. It was a slow process, involving many intensive workshops around Australia, all while she continued working on her personal yoga practice.

Today she is a certified yoga teacher, teaching Beginners Yoga, General Yoga, Kids Yoga, and Chair Yoga. She has taught in schools, martial arts gyms, corporate settings, privately, and voluntarily.

Susie believes that everyone is a work in progress and that yoga is a great recipe for supporting health for the mind, body, and spirit. For her, yoga is not just exercise, but a model for balance. She firmly believes that every body is a yoga body and that it is never too late to start practicing. The first step is today.

Venue information

Meltemi Retreat

Meltemi Retreat sits at the very top of Agios Georgios, Iraklia's main village, with panoramic views across the Small Cyclades and a front-row seat to both sunrise and moonrise over the Aegean. It's a small, family-run property, not a resort, exactly the kind of place that lets a retreat feel personal rather than packaged.

Each room is simple, comfortably furnished and impeccably clean, with its own private balcony. Guests have access to wireless internet, air-conditioning, a TV, hairdryer and bathroom amenities, plus a fridge, kettle and coffee maker for slower mornings. Sea views can't be guaranteed in every room, but most open straight onto the water.

The retreat's yoga shala sits right on the property, fully equipped with mats, blocks, straps, bolsters and a full set of Tibetan singing bowls, everything Susie needs for the twice-daily practice and the sound baths built into this retreat.

Beyond the mat, Iraklia rewards slow exploration. The island has eight signposted hiking trails, hidden coves only reachable by boat, and a population small enough that every walk feels like a private tour, especially with a host who doubles as the island's resident naturalist.

Breakfast is taken together at the main house each morning, often with produce from the property's own garden. Dinners move around the village across the week, with the group eating at three different local restaurant, a small touch that turns meals into a way of meeting the island, not just feeding the group.

Meltemi Retreat offers something resorts can't: a real island, a real village, and a genuinely small group experience built around it.
